anyone heard about Dan Cooper?
i have heard, he jumped out from a 727 with 200.000$ and maybe survived
is there any proof at the myth is true??

The person named Dan Cooper did jump out the rear airstairs of a 727 over a heavily forested area, carrying about 200K he had, apparently, appropriated in less than honorable ways.

To date, there has been no confirmation that a) he survived the adventure, nor that he did not survive.

Theis just spelled the name incorrectly.  A Google search for DB Cooper will turn up hundreds of results.

The last reports I heard, within the last 5 years, were that some of the cash had turned up in the wilderness.  Maybe that is somewhere in those hundreds of results.

The problem with the whole thing is there is literally NO evidence of anything on either side.

Had he survived, surely the money would have surfaced somewhere when it was spent.  It didn't.


Had he been killed, there would have been something found somewhere...a body, remains, money....it hasn't.  (Disclaimer:  Some money was found years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember whether it was proven to be the money that Cooper took or not.)

There's no doubt that the fact is that he did the deed...the myth is whether or not he lived afterward.

Dan Cooper passed a note to an air hostess, saying that he had a bomb in his suitcase.
He demanded 200k and 3-4 parachutes. (many beleive he was fooling the authorities that he was taking someone off the plane.)
The plane made a fuel stop and his demands were met.
Plane took off again, passengers completly unaware of just wtf was going on.
The authorities were going to nab him when the plane landed, but he bailed out with the 200k.
Earlier the pilot heard the aft door open. He asked DB if he was in need of help. a single "No!"was heard.

Before Mt St. Helens erupted for the last time, poeple found some of Cooper's cash. Unfortunatly after Mt St. Helens exploded, nothing else was found.

After this the "Cooper Vane"was created, to stop aircraft doors being opened in flight.

I used to wonder whether aircraft doors could be opened in flight - they just sit there in the open with no guards and a very obvious handle.

Well, he didn't go out one of the side doors.  He exited through the rear ramp hatch which isn't axcessable by the passengers.  I doubt the main doors can be just opened by moving that handle-there must be some safety system so it can't be opened by just anyone.

He exited a via a door on the main fueselage, which is why the the Captain heard him, and the captain could hear his shout of 'No!', therefore, he must have been with in the main fueselage,.

I'd imagine it would be very hard to open the side doors on a plane in flight.  The wind would be holding it shut, or at least slam it back as soon as you opened it.

The aircraft he bailed out of was a 727, which has an aft airstair door.  It is used primarily in emergencies, but the cleaners often use this door to go in and out of a plane.

At the time of the Cooper jump, it was possible to open the door in flight.  Since that time, however, the door has been redesigned with what basically amounts to a lever which is locked in place by the passing wind as the aircraft move through the air.

As for never being found, you're right.  The terrain of the pacific northwest is brutal.  But after 20 some-odd years of people walkin' around in there and natural reconfiguration of the landscape...NOTHING has shown up.  

Well you got to figure that if he died, there wouldn't be much left by now.
