Handley Page Victor issues

Postby Flt.Lt.Andrew » Sun Jan 16, 2005 4:17 am

Hey all,
I'm currently building a Handley Page Victor and I needed some historical/architectural help.
I can't seem to work out how the parachute deployed on the aircraft....does the rear nose cap swing open?
Or is there some other mechanism...
any help appreciated.

A.

Not sure if this is much help. It's too small to see the details  I assume the doors referred to cover the opening on top of the tail cone.

Tail section with air brakes extended. Note the doors for the arrester parachute in the open position.

Thats the same model!
Now, see the end cone thingy, did that detach when the parachute was released?

Thanks Hagar,

Right. I suspected that. ;)

From what I can make out the tail cone doesn't detach. Note the small doors above the air brake opening & just behind the rudder in that photo. They're in the open position. I assume the parachute lives in a compartment below those doors. From what it says in the article it's attached to the rear fuselage, possibly the rear of the fairing directly below the rudder.

Doug's correct...

Look at this pick here and see where the parachute's coming from.

Also, shouldn't this be in the Specific Aircraft types section?...

Awesome!
Thanks guys!
And, no Charlie, it shouldnt, as I am questioning it in a living-history sense....(that should keep the mods happy) ;)

You're welcome. I think Charlie is right. It's not a case of keeping the mods happy. If we hadn't spotted this you would have more chance of an answer to this sort of question in the Specific Aircraft section. People interested in aircraft don't necessarily visit the History forum.
