Here is something I wonder about on occasion--As terrible as wars are they also help bring about great advances in technology.  What if WWII never happened--what would our world be like today??

I figure it would be very crowded!!

Consider 50,000,000 people marrying and breeding families for 3 generations. What does that equal in terms of extra population??

You also have to ask yourself what sort of things wouldn't have happened. The things that were directly (or indirectly caused by WWII). The Cold War, for instance, would have been very different, as half of Europe wouldn't have been 'available' to the USSR???

I think from a Technological point of view, we would certainly be well behind. Not only because of the advances in avaiation and machinery, but also because of the absence of 'Post War Japan', which has been responsible for so much advancement in electronics etc??

Yes, a very different place indeed. But would it be better or worse, or much the same???

Like every discussion that concerns 'timelines' and the changing of history due to 'something' not taking place - totally speculative and at best, pure fanstasy. But still, often interesting to ponder.

;D :D ;)

One of the first things that pops in to my head is America would be rather behind, assuredly not first in military.  The big dogs would probably be Germany, France, Britain and Japan.

The British Empire would have taken a lot longer to disband.

The world map might very well have been a lot simpler, at least in the Far East - considering most people don't really group China along with the rest of Wold War II.  I imagine Japan would have had a lot of real estate to fart around with.

But that is all held together by the inconspicuous pseudonym of "The British Commonwealth". And Zimbabwe is suspended from it too.

I suppose the proper British Empire is now Gibraltar, the Falklands, the Canary Islands and the Channel Islands. Not much considering we had a third of the planet at one point. :P :)
