Talk about history.....

Sunday was the wings over stow aviation day at the School airport...

not a lot of airplanes, but decent ones...

Of course there was the B-17...I went for a ride in the School's 172 with another student and as we were on short final the B-17 was taking off right in front of us...:-) Not a sight you see every day...

But the highlight of the show was definately the appearance of the Junkers JU-52 since there is only one here in North America...:-) Beautifully restored aircraft...Stuck around after the show just to see the bird leave..nothing beats the sound of those old radial engines...;-)

Hopefully there will be another Ju-52 (Spanish built) gracing the skies.  Kermit Weeks (Fantasy of FLight) has one in line to be restored.  It appears in decent shape.

Glad you had a Great Time Jared :)

Did you get any pictures of the Tri.Motor?

Any other radial engine aircraft there as well that you might have pics of would also be welcome.

Thanks for posting.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Allright, couldn't tell you which JU-52 was there, presumably the one scorpion listed, but not sure...

Second, they didn't give rides at all, not even attempting to sell rides.  They did however allow you to "tour" the aircraft for a mere $3.00USD. which is pretty cool considering the B-17 is not as endangered and they were charging more for a tour... I did however get to see them start it up taxi, and takeoff to go back home to Gary, Inidiana its home base.

Alas, there were not many radial engine aircraft there, the B-17, the JU-52 and a Stearman were the only radials that made it, though there was supposed to be a B-25 there all day as well.

And to answer another question, I don't have a single picture from this wonderful day because I don't have a digital camera of my own.  I'm usually able to borrow my parents pretty ncie olympus digital without a problem, but this particular day they were having a get-together with some of their old friends and just "had" to have a camera... :-( Perhaps someday when I get paying tuition and buying textbooks I will be able to buy myself a really ncie digital camera.... 8)
