Ah, August 1964. The Swinging Sixties.
I was 21 years old & working at Gatwick. The Beatles were in the charts with "A Hard Day's Night". I don't recall hearing any air-raid sirens or seeing any Luftwaffe aircraft.

Here's the RAF official history site.
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/bobhome.htmlYou can check the daily reports for the whole BoB. Note that the losses are the original claims which were later re-evaluated. August 18th, 1940 is sometimes referred to as "The Hardest Day". The Ju 87 Stuka suffered heavy losses & was permanently withdrawn from the campaign. It was shown to be no match for a modern organised fighter defence. This removed the Luftwaffe's main precision-bombing weapon & resulted in a change of tactics which might have affected the outcome of the BoB.
