Strange to look at today's date in the History Forum...but today had a historic event.

Most of you know that early this morning the first privately built spacecraft crossed the boundary into space. Appropriately named, SpaceShip One crossed over the 100KM altitude mark, entering the official realm of "Space" and entering the history books.

How will our descendants look back on this day?

100 years from now will the decendants of Hagar or Felix be on a board much like this (or whatever replaces forums) discussing the "Golden Age" of space travel?

Will our grandchildren have to learn the date for history classes?

Will FS 2104 (Bicenntenial of Flight) users be complaining about the flight modelling of SpaceShip One and asking how anybody managed to get it to fly into space?

It's almost impossible to put an event like this in proper perspective today, it's simply too immediate. I have a feeling though that this event will be remembered for a long time to come.

The curious thing about this event is how under-reported it has been.  I've barely heard about it in the news.

Strange...even my local news had a story about it. Maybe because Canada has two competitors trying to win the X-Prize...both expecting launches this summer.

If you just go to ctv.ca they even have a poll asking if people would be interested in $10K space flight trips.

There has been nothing in the news here, so thanks for that, I've been following Rutans efforts with interest as I deeply admire the guy for showing all the "big" aviation companies what a bunch of chumps they are
I can tell you that the descendents of Ozzy will probably be the first to re-enter the Earths atmosphere inverted
