tsunami,
You should take a drive up there. Its kind of an all day trip, but there are vista points along the way that allow different views of Mount St. Helens and have photos of how the area looked before the eruption. Much of the area is recovering but there are still alot of fallen, burnt trees laying around. There is a large observation station near the top, much like a museum to valcanos, with displays and graphics on the dynamics of valcanos along with a good view of the Mount. One thing, it cost to enter this vista. I don't remember the cost, its been a couple of years since I was up there last. When the weathers good (summer) the park service allows foot treks up to the rim of the valcano.
As for flying over the Mount, back in 1994, on a trip to California, I flew over the mountian range and could see Mount St. Helens, its crater and how the flow had traveled very clearly..........it was awesome!!!
