I must detour through next time I'm in Germany for a look around!
Mind you I hear that Gib has hardly changed at all ;D Several friends assure me that there are still regular rucks with the Spanish in the usual bars ;D

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Was it not "X" Sqn (as in EX and not 10) and then named 617 Sqn after the mission was over?

Matt (In a previous life, ex 617 Sqn, RAF Marham 1992)



617 Sqn was designated "Squadron X" on March 15th, 1943, until it was assigned the number "617" on the 21'st March 1943.  ;)

Sqn "X" was simply so Gibson had something to start working with, he was effectively forming the squadron before it officially existed.
