I would much rather hear history, from a vet himself, than reading it in a book... when I first started watching "blacksheep squadron" on the History Channel and fell in love with the Corsair... when I read that Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington had been dead since the 80's it tore me up, I would have given anything to have gotten to have a conversation with him. it is such a shame when a War vet passes on...  :(

He was a lucky one... so many gallant men died in that war.
My grandpa, who passed away over 20 years ago, served in an artillery unit in France in '18... he never talked much about it either, except for a few funny stories. But when he talked about the work they did helping the locals restore their towns and farms and clearing roads and whatnot, I could tell he was recalling some very grim images. But he made it through that year without a scratch, and even survived being laid up in Brest waiting for transport, only to get sick on the ship going home!

Its a shame as such an important piece of History passes away.
One wonders when the time will come for ourselves to be a part of such a history.

Do you want to live forever or what?

Well do you want to die and do you look forward to death? ;)

And actually I was thinking more in terms of being cut short  in a war, having re-read it with your comment I misinterpreted it. ;D

Because there's something very strong called 'survival instinct'.

I think about that from time to time. In the back of my mind I keep expecting some huge and horrible war to break out that will involve all of us. I guess WW3... ::)

Don't want to get political here, but I place my bets on China, unless the EU doesn't brake up into fights first over the ailing constitution... ;)
