It was actually Britain, not just England. India was part of the great British Empire. When I was at school all the pink bits on this map were ruled by Great Britain. Things have changed a lot since then.

The British Empire

Undoubtedly the largest empire the world has ever seen. At its height it covered one quarter of the earths land surface and stretched to every corner of the globe. It was true that the sun never set on the British Empire.

Getting angry wouldn't do much good. Once upon a time most of the US was pink too. That was some years before I was born despite any rumours to the contrary.

Ofcourse, with all the attention given to the Royals in the US, I wouldn't be surprised to find that deep down, the US harbours more monarchist feelings than the UK.

I wonder if 60th Regiment of Foot still exists
