Mystery Ship mystery?

Postby wifesaysno » Wed Aug 28, 2013 8:35 am

Wondering if anyone on here has or knows where to find any technical information on the Travel Air Mystery Ships.....specifically (ideally) the model "R".

You need to speak to Kevin Ryan (I think his last user name was WingNut). I haven't seen him around here for a long time.

Looks like Matt Younkin's replica. Where is it?

We have a replica of "Texaco 13" in the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.

We have a replica of "Texaco 13" in the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.

It's a replica built by local vintage aircraft restorer Ron Souch for Mr Richard Seeley.

Ron's work is of the highest standard. Tomorrow, Friday, will hopefully be its first public outing at the LAA Rally, Sywell. http://www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk/2013/Rally/rally2013.html

It's my understanding that Pancho Barnes' Type R (#31) has been in the UK for some time now, apparently undergoing restoration.

In 1930, Barnes broke Amelia Earhart's World Women's Speed Record in this Type R, with a speed of 196.19 mph (315.7 km/h). She later operated the The Ranch Oro Verde on the edge of Rogers Dry Lake Bed, otherwise known as "The Happy Bottom Riding Club", and had as customers Carl Spaatz, Chuck Yeager, Jack Ridley, Jimmy Doolittle and other famous pilots.

This one is #29. According to Mr Seeley it was built to the original plans drawn by Herbert Rawdon. I believe the only original part is the engine.
