When flight attendants do the safety dance and they are showing how to use the life vests, are those live/working vests? :)

No they are demo vests and as such inert. It goes for the battery and lights too. It is a legal requirement that a life vest is vacuum packed in a rip-able plastic bag. Each vest has a a unique serial number linked to date of manufacture, next servicing date and time-ex date. One of the reasons for it being sealed, it is a very quick way of knowing whether it is serviceable or not. Bag intact, serial number visible and expiry date good, all is OK.

Although it seems the seatbelt they use for the demonstration is actually the seat belt extender they have for "larger" people.  I was actually on a flight where they used the 2 or 3 extenders for passengers, and did not have another to use for the demonstration.
