...last night?

A large bang heard by hundreds across the country last night was a sonic boom caused by two Typhoon aircraft responding to an emergency, the Ministry of Defence said.

The RAF jets were despatched to a small civilian helicopter that had emitted an emergency signal on a frequency it should not have been using, but the error was realised too late.

An MoD spokesman said the fighter planes, scrambled from RAF Conningsby, in Lincolnshire, had been authorised to go supersonic and were already on their way to the helicopter.

Must be nice knowing you have an always ready air force.
Here when we sense the threat the engineers scramble to fix the put the tigers back together ::) ::) ;D

WOW... :o...!

So that's what it was!

I was sitting here quietly at my Computer desk, in my living room, when I thought I heard a strange, unfamiliar noise outside; a low frequency boom!

I actually opened my door and went out into my garden to try and detect what it was!

Haven't head that sort of Sonic Boom sound for a long time now!

Its a very rare sound we sometimes get, following a small, local, earth tremor.

Paul...Sonic the Hedgehog... 8-)...!

Must be nice to know the Typhoons of the RAF are always at the ready!

Looks like the RAF still has got the intercept skills they gained in the Cold War  ;)

One embarrassed helicopter pilot. Whoops.

Good bit of practice though. :)
