She won't be the last. Sadly the pilot will probably be sued to kingdom come, even if it wasn't his fault, and he'd briefed her about the dangers of a prop... :(

Some reports were saying it was a commuter flight, others saying that they were changing over passengers. Pretty dire nonetheless.

It was not a commuter flight, it was an Aviat Husky that was giving a few people rides.  The story is she had just got out, then walked back to the aircraft to thank the pilot.  Being a tail dragger, the pilot may have never even seen her walking back towards the aircraft.

The lesson: ALWAYS shut down before allowing pax off the plane, unless there is a trusted assistant to guide them, or take them by the hand, if necessary. ALWAYS. Even if it's a cranky fuel-injected engine. ALWAYS!  The risk is not worth the time or trouble saved, as this pilot found out.

Even more important, she's conscious and seems to be doing pretty well, considering her brain was damaged.

Whirling, invisible propellers on aircraft on the ground always remind me of the film; "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre".

They are so dangerous...and invisible!

Paul.. :o...!

My best wishes go out to the young lady and her family.  I guess I will also be the one with the bad taste to mention how much potential this situation has for the humor section...blonde model walks into propeller. ;)
