Man thats terrible. What is the deal? It seems like every month there is an airliner crash in Russia, or a Russian built airliner crashing. Are these planes just too old to be in the air? Or are the pilots taking un-necessary risks by flying in bad conditions with old technology?

Pick any number and make a combo: poor weather, old equipment, poor maintenance practices, poor preflight inspections, poor flight crew training, poor ATC training. :-/

I think the Russian President is right in calling for all these Soviet era planes being withdrawn from service, they are truly reaching the end of their service life and alas are proving it by writing in blood :'( :'( :'(
