Excuse my lack of optimism, but lets hope it does not turn out to be the same complete and utter willy up that the last Chinook purchase deal turned into. And that this time we buy off the shelf and don't try and install our own software into the flight management system, thus ensuring that said aircraft sit on the ground for eight years awaiting a complete rewire front to rear because some chinless wonder with a chequebook thought we could save a couple of million

Boeing saw us coming with that one too. Once it was realised that our software option would not work, Boeing told the MOD, it's your bed, now rewire it ;D

We did rather take it from behind on that deal. And that is nothing compared to what happened on the Mull of Kintyre ::)

Its good news, however from a personal stand point I'd also like to have seen some more money spent on some Apache's. Our current aircraft may be brandspanking new, but you'd be lucky to see them last a few more years the way they are being used at the moment.
With the future Lynx on its way sort of... ::) both quick transport and heavy lift should be taken care of well into the next decade.

A bit late, but never too late. They say the first ones will arrive as we clear the countries we need them in.

Though many will see that as money unwisely spent... It will undoubtedly show itself to be useful in the following years. Wars can and have sparked up from seemingly nowhere... It is safer to have 'enough' and to have invested the money than to wait for the next big conflict to come along.

I wonder how many of the serious political folk will see it that way too  ::)
