Press and aircraft identification (yes... again)

Postby Ivan » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:33 am

BBC reporter says 'they shot a MiG with two pilots'
CNN shows footage of same wreckage, and films the tail... that says 'Su-22M detachment'

Well the Libyans do have 2 seat MiG's (MiG-25PU) but you cant drop bombs with that...
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

The British press are notorious for their indifference when it comes to accuracy and attention to detail. The BBC are particularly backward; only yesterday they had a story about the commemoration of the first flight of the Spitfire, but rather focused on the rather old news that a woman (yes, a woman) might actually be capable of flying one... ::)

The average British journalist is so sozzled by 8am that he'd not know a jumbo jet if it landed on him ;D ;D ;D
There are exceptions but remember that journos report what other people do, they tend not to be doers themselves... more wasters or wasted ;D ;D ;D

Ozzy (very anti-journalist, like most uniformed types) ;)

I would rather have them misidentify an aircraft than have them blow a minor incident way out of proportion.

"...and experts tell us that over 200 puppies could have been killed had they been on board at the time!" ::)

Aircraft are naturally beautiful because form follows function. -TB
