Boeing . . . . . . .

Why do some people seem to think boeing made every aircraft in the world . .    For example the default F-18 is actually a Grumman/Northrop design and build.

The F/A-18 is a Mcdonnell Douglas design, but Boeing inherited the aircraft after it absorbed MD. Same thing with the 717. It was origionally the MD-90/95, but in 1997 Boeing bought MD and therefore the MD-90/95. Then, Boeing has the rights to the design. Hope this helps.  ;)

Having grown up a couple miles away from the complex, it's still McDonnell-Douglas to me.

And if memory serves, which is sketchy at times, Northrop and Mac collaborated on the Hornet, with Northrop being the initial designer/builder.

Same as the Lockheed F-16.  The F-16 is originally a General Dynamics aircraft.

As for the F-17/F-18, Northrop and McD teamed up in the original competition with the F-16, and built the F-17.  Later the Navy wanted a two engine light fighter, and McD pulled out the F-17 plans and built the F-18 from them.  Northrup did later sue McD for cutting them out of the profits from the F-18.
