The Wright Brothers changed aviation forever by flying the world's first engine powered, heavier-than-air airplane. Take a moment right now to thank and honor them for their great accomplishment.

They did indeed document their accomplishments closely, but don't forget, they never did get off the ground by their own vehicle power......although they may have if such a thing as a runway was available to them........still, to this day, catapult launches are an acceptable form of getting a plane into the air,......good for Wilbur and Orville.........and Whitehead, and Lilienthal, and Cody, and Penaud and on and on and on......too many to list here.....

Someone has to be "first" at most things of this nature.

What the Wright brothers did was to approach powered, winged flight in a bit more measured and scientific way than their contempories.

However, at the time, with most of the civilized world working on the problem(s) of flight, it was only a matter of a short time before someone made the first (official) flight.

What is somewhat sad about the Wright brothers is the fact that they did not seem to want to advance their technology much farther than the original flyer as others advanced it rapidly and left them in the dust.
