Hi all,

I can't figure this one out: on a recent flight to Dalaman airport in Turkey my wife who normally carries a shoulder bag and handbag, had to put all the contents into one bag as the airline had changed rules and were only allowing one piece of 'hand luggage' into the cabin.
The total combined weight was under 5Kg.

Perhaps somebody should teach the the check in desk and cabin crew some simple things about stress and mechanics:

Analogy: A Fakir can lay down on a bed of nails because his weight is distributed over thousands of nails over wide area not a small one.

With my wife having to put all contents into one bag, the weight is now compressed into a smaller area which increases the chance of a mechanical failure due to increased stress.

Yes, we will fly with them again as we only use this one company for our holidays which comes into several thousands pounds spent with them each year but somebody please explain things to them.

The new rule is not about stress or weight... it is about making money.

A one carry-on bag rule creates more checked bags.  Checked bags raise revenue.

OK but  it did'nt cost anything  , the missus just had to put it all in one bag, was only a check on the weight which caused em to see two bags, daft rule as there were cases being taken into the cabin that were around 3 times the volume so it's not a space saving thing either, all was ok in June, maybe the difference was the

airlines use standard passenger weights.

bag weights only count when they are checked.

carry on bags dont have a recorded weight.

thus - as is frequently the case - an airliner that is overweight by 500 lbs can take 500 lbs of checked bags out of cargo and move them into the cabin and place them under seats or  in overhead bins... poof... magically the airliner just "lost" 500 lbs

airlines have some wacky rules... some companies are worse than others.

usually the motivation is money. somehow or another.

I don't have a carry on bag, since the divorce.
