I know that plane. I saw it when my dad and I went up to get the floats on our 185. We stayed in it's hanger. Nice plane.

The problem is that it is being auctioned at a car auction. My grandfather was actually the one auctioning off the Tri-motor they mentioned (he was describing it as the auctioneer gave out the bids, he wasn't the owner), and said that it sold for well less than it was worth (about 3 Mil). If you put it on Trade-a-Plane or something similar, it's likely to fetch more.

There are auction houses that handle aircraft... why in the world would they sell such a gem at a car auction?  :-?
