You'd be surprised right now, the twin market is in the dumps.  You can find some nice Barons for under $100k.

Are you sure about that? The Apache is old enough to be regarded as a vintage aircraft. I don't know how many are still flying in the US but to the best of my knowledge there is only one in the UK.

wow! one??  :o

There are three on my field alone (including this one)

I know of a couple at another nearby airport and i know of yet another at an airport about 70 miles from here.

i wasn't aware that they were so rare on your side of the pond

Possibly a few more than one. According to one source there were 5 in March 2007. The later Aztec is also designated PA-23 which causes some confusion. Come to think of it you don't see many of them around these parts nowadays either. I know I've only seen one Apache in the last 10 years or so but that doesn't mean a lot.

Here's one of the UK survivors. The owners reckon it's the oldest airworthy example in the world. I was surprised to find that it was based on a Stinson design. http://www.downdale.com/gbexo.html

A lot of Van's builders find old PA-23's cheap and buy them for their engines.
