just hearing on the news that XL.com has gone bust, all flights are grounded leaving thousands stranded.

Another victim of high jet fuel prices.

Just listening to horror stories of Folks who have paid many hundreds of Pounds for their fares and accommodation by Debit Card (rather than Credit Card) and have therefore lost everything!

A crazy situation!... ...!

I could never understand anyone paying for anything with a debit card. If they'd used a credit card instead there's every likelihood they would get their money back.

I  often pay for products costing a considerable amount of money by Debit Card just to clear the transaction in one go, sorted, to avoid any further action to repay the money for a Credit Card transaction!

I suspect that some of the unfortunate Folks may have reached the limit on their Credit card, and are using their Debit Card instead!

Mr. Sainsbury sucks my Pension from my Current Account via my Debit Card for my shopping each day...Bless him!... ....

The Credit Card is useful if there is any danger of the transaction having problems for any reason.
I don't suppose the unfortunate Travellers foresaw any Problems with XL in advance of their Holiday flights!

I would say a holiday is a perfect example of where you would not pay by debit card under any circumstances. You might just as well pay by cash or in this case set light to it. This was an expensive lesson to learn* by those people that lost their holidays with no chance of compensation.

If you're used to managing your money sensibly I don't see any problem with using a credit card like a debit card. Providing you spend what you can afford & pay the bill in full every month the only difference is that you pay it all in one lump sum. The money still comes out of your current account. The benefits are obvious as you not only get up to a month's free credit but also the guarantee & insurance cover if anything should go wrong.
