Paul Bonhomme was disqualified from the qualification round of Red Bull Air Race World Series yesterday.

Hannes Arch won today's round in Porto, the second-last race this season.

He only needs one point in the final race to win the series.

Paul Bonhomme was disqualified after it was discovered that he exceeded 12 G's when flying the qualification...

Bonhomme's only hope now, is that he wins the final, and Arch gets no points, in which case, it'll be a tie.

Damn it...

I think anybody that can do 12g's should get a medal - not a disqualification.  :o

It's stupid rule anyway... And I realized later the disqualification sucked even more, because you're allowed to go over 12 G's for 0.6 seconds, he went 0.7  ;D

I find this very strange. According to the manufacturer's website the Edge 540 is stressed to a maximum of 10 G. http://www.zivko.com/EDGE/downloads/edgeinfo.pdf

Meanwhile the Red Bull site states that: "The planes flown in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship are among the best and most modern race planes in the world. They are extremely unstable and agile. During a steep turn, both pilot and plane are subjected to forces which can reach up to 12 g, meaning they are twelve times their normal weight."

No point in arguing. The rules are perfectly clear, unlike those in F1 motor racing.
