Plane dangles from high voltage power lines

I noticed that yesterday on BBC News, and I immediately thought, aren't there warnings in the FBO, and Pilots Charts, about clearing obstacles (overhead power lines, trees, buildings, etc), surrounding the Airfield when taking off and landing..?

Looks like a very expensive job for the Power Company and Recovery Team, and an expensive exercise for the Pilot?.... ...!

(I bet he's lost his No Claims Bonus in a big way!).... ...!

It doesn't say if they recovered the aircraft. It doesn't look badly damaged.

For a rescue that risky, I'd think to cut the power flowing through those lines? I'd assume they would have to do that to get the plane down, though.

Its like all cases when you cause severe and expensive damage to property, etc, through negligence (or otherwise), who foots the bill for all the recovery/repairs?

Example: Your car catches fire on the Motorway, melts the Tar over a large area, and closes the Motorway for repairs...

You lost control of your car and brought down a complete overhead Motorway bridge... ...!

...who pays for it all, especially if the fault was entirely your own?

In Germany, you pay. So this guy will be getting a few bills in the post in the near future. If you have an accident due to negligence, then you will end up with bills from the fire department, ambulance, doctor and anyone else that had to help remove you from your own stupidity, not to mention repairing any damage. I had a mate who had an accident on the autobahn many years ago, his insurance refused to stump up for the road repairs (amaco barrier), he was paying for a long time. New here too, if you have an accident caused by grossly negligent driving, the insurance will pay for the damage caused, but your car damage is your problem. They sight that you have driven in a way not covered by the contract that you have with them i.e, like a normal person would act upon the road. A few people have taken this to court and left with heavy legal bills and still no car repair.

In America, insurance would most likely cover the damages.  The power company has insurance to cover it if the pilot can't.  

That happened here in Seattle at Boeing Field several years ago.  

Me and my mate used to have this problem with our 20p-polystyrene put-them-together-yourself-with-a-bit-of-clear-plastic-for-a-nose-weight WW2 airplane kits from the sweet shop outside our school.

In our case it was usualy the telephone wires outside his house that were our downfall

Come visit before you make sweeping statements like that. It is affordable, just not as wide spread as in the USA. I work with several people who earn no more than me. A couple of them own a share and the other owns out right and I am in no way "loaded"........if was, then I would not be doing nightshift! If you compare Europe to the USA, then we will lose out every time. Aviation is not expensive, what is expensive is everything else, i.e cost of living. We pay around $9,00 a gallon (so you don't have too ) It is a matter of spare cash, not the cost.

The plane looks like a cirrus, although I can't tell since it's not too clear. That alone is an extremely expensive plane. If he can afford that plane, he can afford those bills.

And I don't think flying is "affordable" in the US. The cost of flying in Europe considering the price of gas and user fees is quite a bit more than over here in the states.

6 thats what I thought that was, I had it in the sim a while back quiet a nice little aircraft (he was pry mad that it got wrecked not  the cost those sell mostly as kits not complete models)

That's a shame.....if it were a Cirrus they could have deployed the emergency parachute and floated down  ::)
