Flight Lesson #3

Postby Ravang » Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:22 pm

I just had my 3rd lesson today, it almost didn't happen though. When we got to the airport me instructor met use at the hanger and told us that the Cessna 150 had its annual done yesterday and then today when the owner (I'm training in my friends C150, for free ;D) saw there was some oil dripping from the cowling where the nose wheel attaches. So he'd had called the mechanic to come and look at it, but it turns out it was just some oil that have spilled when they were filling it. After that I did some taxiing, the takeoff, steep turns, slow flight, the traffic pattern, a touch-and-go, and finally a landing. Looking forward to next time. :)

D'oh. Been there... it's wise to call a mechanic over, but you can often tell it's just a spill by checking the outside of the filler tube for oil and looking inside the cowl for the telltale puddle under the tube... that's probably what he did. Checking the quantity, of course, is another clue... if it is unusually low, that could suggest an actual leak.

Well done...

Like I/we always suggest to all the young, Teey-Bopper, Sim V, over-enthusiastic, Flight Sim, budding Boeing 747 Pilots....

..spend hours and hours sim-practicing in the lovely little Cessna 150/152 Trainer...

...she will treat you nicely, serve you well, and teach you the tricks of the Trade...

...trust me...;)...!

Paul...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

P.S. ...the Cessna 150/152 Trainer is nicely balanced.. :).... The Cessna 172 with its bigger, and heavier engine, is slightly nose-heavy...;)...!
