I was checking out the Snowbirds website and saw the 400th aniversary celebreation of Quebec City. There they had the Red Arrows, Snowbirds, Blue Angels, and Thnunderbirds all in one place!

So I came to wonder. How do display teams travel to new locations? For instance, how would they get the arrows all they way to Quebec. Do they fly? It seems like an awful lot of flying in a tiny jet for some shows.

Do people like Patty Wagstaff disassemble their aircraft to transport it? Or do they fly at 150 knots all the way to the next show.

This has been boggling my mind for some time now!

the reds will fly across the atlantic in this case, stopping at various points along the way. Usually Iceland, greenland, newfoundland and so on IIRC.

It depends on the distance and schedule... sometimes they are disassembled and shipped by truck or air freight, sometimes they fly them, or trusted team members fly  them to where they're needed.

Airshow performers with smaller budgets and busier schedules, like Wagstaff and Tucker, fly from show to show unless they're appearing overseas, as far as I know.

As for the Red Arrows, they may be trainers, but I'd rather cross the Atlantic in a Hawk than in the back of a cigar tube...

Aye.

As for the Reds, certainly a treat if you aren't used to seeing them. Getting across the pond would have been different, as I suspect they "hopped" around the northern edge, as they don't have the joys of AAR. Having said that, the US is quite close considering some of their previous BAE sales trips, sorry, far eastern tours!

The reds, from what i read, fly themselves over to america, via greenland, doing shortish hops at a time. No Backup pilots to do it for them...

The Blue Angels and Thunderbird's fly to each show

The Blue Angels use Fat Albert to truck around most of their equipment;

While the Thunderbird's usually get assigned one at each season from what I've seen.

With the Military display teams, it's probably much cheaper just to fly them from show to show than dismantle and rebuild!

The Red Bull Air Race pilots disassemble the planes in 10 parts or something.

All in all, I believe there's around 150 tonnes of equipment being transported to each race.

Why should there be? The Reds are just 10 normal RAF pilots...
