Sukhoi Superjet flies!

Note that Boeing 787 has not flown, although it was "rolled out" before Superjet.

How long before Superjet is in service? Is March 2009 a realistic flight test goal? (Superjet is applying for FAA and JAA certifications, but neither of them is needed for EIS because the launch customer is Aeroflot who can fly the plane under Russian certification before the others are issued.)

The Sukhoi looks like it could actually be a success! And even though I love Russian aircraft, I still must say that it looks fairly similar to the Embraer 170, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Hopefully the other new Russian regional, the Tu-334, will become successful as well, although the order program seemed to have stalled out.

Tu-334 is on second place at Tupolev... the 204 series is having so much orders that they dont have resources available for the 334s certification.

The Sukhoi Superjet is sponsored by Boeing, who will do the marketing outside CIS area. They want their share in the large RJ segment (its positioned to compete with the large Embraer machines)

Sukhoi announced that they intend to carry out test flights with a total of 4 prototype frames. The second prototype should fly in late July.
