A Kallita air 747 broke in half this afternoon at EBBR. No-one of the flightcrew has died, but things could have been a lot worse...

The pilot did hear a strange noise on departure and did put the plane down again. The aircraft skidded of the runway and broke in 2. It ended up outside the airport-ground, not to far away from a house.

I want first dibs on the cockpit section

Glad to see that there where no injuries and it did not burn.

Well, that's one Kalitta  bird I won't be seeing at KEWR again... thank goodness it was a freighter, and there was no fire... whew!  

It's sad to see her in that state, but better she die working than under the guillotine in the scrapyard.

Could be. But what do I know? That is truely incredible.

Unlikely. Being a cargo aircraft there is a lot of weight in that hold that may have decided to redistribute itself. For a Captain to put the aircraft straight back on the ground at take off would have been a dire, if not catastrophic situation.

Aye. Otherwise it wouldn't be sat in one (slightly disjointed piece) at the end of the runway.
