Food for thought on how airlines treat their employees.

while executives earn more money annually than many of us will see in ten lifetimes they produce crap like this

then we won't have to worry about paycuts

Actualy, we raped the oil prices back in the 60's, then those countries realized they were extremely underpaid and raised there prices, our own governements took the chance and created a whole line of taxes on top of that price, wich in europe makes up the biggest part of the oil price. Ah, politics.

I cant believe any company could be so offensive against there own staff, is this real or just a joke?

painfully real... not a joke:

Northwest approached Balance financial services and asked them to prepare the brochure.

Here is a portion of the pamphlet Northwest Airlines gave to it's employees, this was the middle of last year i guess.

http://cache.consumerist.com/assets/res ... 01list.pdf

the suggestions are on page 2 and 3, i guess while you are dumpster diving, trading clothing at a thrift store, and buying parts for your 8 year old car out of a junk yard...

...your CEO will be eating at 5 star dinners, wearing Gucci, and looking for the best deal on factory new parts for his 2007 Ferrari

I thought this must be a joke at first but it's apparently true.

The brochure is obviously a general guide for people on low incomes. In fact there's a lot of sense in it but not what you would expect to be given by an employer when facing wage cuts & redundancy. How callous & thoughtless can you get? Some companies (usually the larger ones) have no idea how to treat their employees & then wonder why they're continually having industrial disputes. Unfortunately airline management does not have a good reputation in this respect.

One example of complete thoughtlessness:
53. Bicycle to work.
Not much use when you've just been made redundant & have no work to go to. ::)

or when you're an airline employee with a 500 mile commute.  ::)

its true, some of the things make good sense

like dont grocery shop when your hungry (we use that one)  ;D
or; turn the lights off when you leave the room... no kidding!

but its a real indicator as to where the airline industry has gone when the airline has to give its pilots, mechanics and flight attendants are given a pamphlet with suggestions like dig out of the trash.

i find myself between a rock and a hard place as an airline employee

in that regard... i really like the work i do and the people i work with, but that sense of enjoyment... however important... wont keep my bills paid.

the age old question im seeking an answer to as we speak

>>> would i rather have a job i loved and make almost no money, or have a job i hated and have a really good income?

the difficulty and hesitation in answering that question indicates a problem right away  :-/
