Well, my ATC squadron have been offered a flight in an RAF Chinhook recently! Who would say no to that? ;D

I'll be taking my camera with me so expect some photos up after the flight. :)

Should be good fun! :D

If it was in Afghanistan, yes, I would say no... ;)

Sounds good though. Hope you get to enjoy it, and make sure a camera goes with you. :)

Did my first ride in a Chinook at an ATC camp in Germany many years ago, great fun. Try and get some ramp surfing, it is AWESOME 8-)

It's been almost a year since I started cadets and in that time we have had no chances like this...

I've been in for just over 2 years now A, and for me this is a lucky opportunity - it's quite rare that oppourtunities like this come up, but I'm sure it'll come around for you sometime :)

Thanks Matt, very reassuring ;D

I did five years in the Cadets and didn't fly in anything other than AEF and VGS aircraft. A lot is down to the proactiveness of both you wing and sqn staff, and how well your sqn is connected.

Very true. You're lucky if you do. I've only ever flown Tutors and Vikings. Sometimes you can get the odd flight in a Seaking or similar on a camp but its rare.  :-/

It isn't anything to get downhearted about either whilst you are with the cadets; even if you don't get the chances other sqn's do the organisation may well make the difference in having a career where one can have access to such types.

I've been lucky though and only had to endure a Puma and being plucked out of the sea by the Sea King in the service of my country! ;D

(can you tell I've never been a helo fan?) ;)

Is ATC like CAP here in the States?

When I was a cadet I went on 2 KC-135 rides (one we fueled a B-2), we also did alot of work out at the airshows and fly-ins
