The new Marine 1, spotted...

Postby C » Sat Mar 15, 2008 12:28 pm

...recently at an aerodrome in south-west England.

Some on the ball snapper caught the C-17 arriving to pick it up. :)

That's one of my planes....Is that normal for the stuff around the chopper? I know that when it gets painted, that they are not going to let any thing get mess up the paint job.

It is the C-17 transportation kit. The gear has to be retracted and the whole helicopter lowered to get in to a C-17.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

So it does not just wheel on like every other chopper? Strange, but I guess it's not like it needs to be off and on in record time.

I read that the Puma can be loaded without all that kit, the Merlin is slightly bigger though.

The old ones aren't old. They're absolutely ancient.  This is sorely needed, but the new aircraft has had a very troublesome development.  It's about time we see it!

However, despite the development issues, which now appear to be long gone, it has now gone on to prove itself as a fine helicopter in some fairly hostile environments (in warm sandy places). :)
