Many, many moons ago when I did my mechanic and Technician training it was full to the brim, but I think that today you are going to be a little disappointed, it was all moved to Cosford. The gliding club may still be active though. You can do some good ridge soaring over the old accommodation blocks.

In the old days you'd be able to tell that it was a "blunty" station, due to the lack of a brevet on the staish's uniform. Having said that, even flying stations are getting "blunt" staishes (like Wittering)...

Sadly you won't see much aeroplane wise other than gliders, and a Tornado (IIRC) on the parade square. As Matt says, it always has been, and still is, a training base, nowadays for all new airmen and airwomen, NCO leadership training and a few other bit (including Admin Officer training - probably best to avoid this particular area!) Nice area though. :)

Many moons ago when I was a cadet Halton was our Wing HQ. Lovely place, I did a few courses there and we always had our Wing Competitions there. The mess is excellent (I especially loved their cooked breakfasts..... a sort of mountain of nosh on a plate) and the firing range was really good (lots of unusual weapons). The gliding club is good there as well.
All in all it is a nice station ;)

I went to Halton in 2006 for a cadet camp, there isn't very much to do compared to other stations, as far as flying goes you will probably go to 8aef At benson.
But there are plenty of sections to visit and other fun stuff to do, hope you have fun....hopefully in august i will be going to Lyneham for a week
