There are an ever-growing number of Folks, daily, from all walks of life, protesting about the expansion of Heathrow Airport.

It makes you wonder about the whole subject of Air Travel, and its effects, at the moment?

Paul....Quite happy just Motor-Biking around England... 8-)..!

Makes me wonder how these Muppets want to put themselves in bodily danger from everything from armed police to the ramp area. You would not wander along the edge of the fast lane of motorway any more that of a ramp at a busy airport when you have no idea of how it operates. Not just that, but a high gloss aircraft surface can be like standing on ice without the correct footwear. Brainless idiots who have no regard for the potential consequences of the simple action of climbing on an aircraft and I am not talking about the law aspect............pull the steps away, leave them up there until they are cold and hunger and then leave them for another 24 hours before letting them down >:(

I'm sure the environment would be MUCH better off if all those flights just go through Gatwick instead...

Stupid Greenpeace.

Imagine how much fuel was wasted when they had to shut down the airport for the hour or so it would have taken to clean up that mess.  All those planes idling on the ground or circling in the air.  Morons...

Whist I think that those involved are total dick heads, I can't help wonder over the total over reaction "we" make to such things. Why did aircraft have to be diverted or put into a hold pattern just because a couple of people climb on a parked aircraft. Put a cordon around it, a copper to watch over it and let them get on with it. They will soon get tired and come down.

Matt

Edit...What is the difference between these two and two techs changing a TCAS antenna for example............apart from the obvious. It is still two people on an aircraft. Diverting and hold patterns, that is just someone being self important.

I wonder if a suitable counter-protest to these folk climbing on a 777 would be to park a 777 on top of them?

;D

OK, I meant that as a joke!

As for protests, one thing I have learned over the years (often by opening my big yap before having all the information and making myself the fool) is that issues are often much more complex than idealists (and even pessimists, and a whole lot of other ist-ists) make it out to be.

So, air travel is going to kill us?  What about the tons and tons and tons of medical and food supplies that are distributed around the world in a timely and effective manner because of air transport?  Should we go ahead and let those in need suffer, starve, and die?  If a expanding a hub airport to handle more traffic is bad, would having a lot more activity at surrounding, smaller airports be better?

On the other hand, the environment is important. And, if we don't play nice with mother nature, some day she is liable to shake us off like a handful of fleas.  So, can we ignore the impact fossil fuel use has on the world?

So many sides to everything.  But, one, it isn't going to change overnight.  And, two, it will require level heads and reasoned discussion - not stupid grandstanding.

In this day and age, these four yahoos should be glad they weren't shot!  Who the fudgy-fudge sneaks onto an airfield illegally these days that has half-a-brain?!?  And in any day and age, traipsing around an airfield when you do not belong, when no one knows you are there, and when you don't know what the fudgy-fudge you are doing is asking for a tragedy!  This is not socially responsible protest, this is a foolish publicity stunt designed to hype an issue rather than bring reason to it.  I hope they have some time to cool their heels and reflect on the error of their ways - preferably doing many, many, many hours of community service while wearing something suitably orange or striped.  This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with reasonable safety - not just for those four knuckleheads, but for everyone there at the airport.

So, I suppose now in addition to signs posted at airports telling people not to joke about explosives and hijackings, we will need signs warning them to not be utter wankers.

Sigh,
Darrin

I think they were lucky not to get shot or shredded.

They should have been shoot on sight....on another note, security is lacking at th Airport if they got in, and climbed on a plane. Terrorist could have done far werst.

The reason why the airplanes had to circle was because they could have had a bomb. Terrorists can easily dress up as Greenpeace activists if it means they can bomb something. They should have been taken down at gunpoint and perhaps Greenpeace would like to help pay for the costs incurred from all the trouble and delay? ::)

Greenpeace campaigners have breached security at London's Heathrow airport

If Greenpeace nutters can do it, doesn't say much about the prevention of International Terrorism.....  ::)

perhaps Greenpeace would like to help pay for the costs incurred from all the trouble and delay?

park a 777 on top of them

^ I like Darrin's way of making them pay ;D

I can remember the glory days when I used to Motor-Bike down the A40 Trunk road from Hereford to London in the late 1940's, early 1950's,  in peace and quiet, no noise, no traffic, and not a single massive Passenger Jet in sight, as I passed Heathrow...

Those were the days...long gone now!...;)...!

Idiots, banging on about climate change - bet they all turned up in a  clapped out 2CV each, without a care for the pollution thrown out by these 'hippy' cars.

Is there still climate change happening on Mars? A planet noted for it's absence of planes & cars?
