Minot, North Dakota is my home (well, once I escape from Japan, anyway), and it is where my family is currently living.  We have our regular airport (KMOT - Minot International) and the local air base (Minot AFB).

Well, it seems any port in a storm will do, as the saying goes, and so now the civilian airport has a B-52 parked there.  You can read the article HERE.

Reminds me of the time a B-52 made an emergency landing at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL.  Although it made it down safely, after a long studythat lasted over a year, it was decided the runways were not long enough to fly the aircraft out.

Since Chanute was a training base they decided to use the aircraft for training.  Fire training.

Yep. They burned the aircraft until nothing recognizble was left then cleaned up the mess.

Not too long after that, since the local flying club was the only user of the runways, ( three Cssna 150's including 58M, the one I trained on, one Cessna 172, and a Piper Cherokee D ) they decided to close the runways down.

Would a quick took in the FCOM under aircraft weight taking off and landing distances been quicker

Well, the longest runway at KMOT is 7,700 feet.  I wonder what they are going to do, because I thought it took over 10,000 feet for a take-off.  Then again, if you run light on the fuel and with no ordinance/cargo, it may be able to take off a little more quickly.

Hm, anyone know?
