The pilot and co-pilot who set the Boeing jet safely down at Gimli that day were among those on its final flight to the high desert.

Good morning Matt... :)

Thanks for the site...wonderful read.

Some things seem to remain in our memory forever and that was one of them.  I can remember where I was and what I was doing when that happened.
I also remember when one of the worst aviation accidents happened here in Canada, the DC8 at Toronto, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. (sitting at the end of a runway at another airport with a full load of pax)
Others that come to memory are the announcements of the  foolish cancellation of the Avro Arrow, the cancellation of several naval and army contracts and the FLQ crisis just to mention a few.

It is great folks like you post these things because it helps some of us to keep the free space in the old grey matter from growing.   ;D

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Doug

I came across it completely by accident. I was reading up on a posted link about the Heathrow 777 G-YMMM crash. There was a link to some additional information (turned out not to be so additional ::))  and tucked in the corner of the page was a link to Gimli. Lucky find really :D
