On cue, Nature provides a spectacle: a huge flock of birds attacks the swarm of insects.

But there are plenty left- I think Philippe is asking his copilot: "What dew you mean, zee waypers do not fonction! Zut alors!" ;D

A landing is made near some islands in the lake, to have a closer look at the flies...

     Image

As you can see, the Catalina requires a bit of muscle to flare properly onto the water... the copilot rides the throttles.

I assume they lowered the gear here to have more low-speed taxi control... they then deploy a Zodiac to go ashore on the tiny island.

Soon the sun is setting... they will camp on the lake.

A tarp and some mosquito netting makes the PBY a majestic

houseboat... must be cool waking up on the hull of a Catalina on a

huge lake in the middle of Africa. ;D

The galley is well-outfitted... time for some breakfast!

And soon they're off again, to follow the Nile to the sea.

Quite a few very fun shots taken from the nose hatch in flight... like this one.

I'd love to do what these guys did.
Flying around Africa in a Cat, what could be much better than that for a life.

I would love to see pictures of the interior of that Catalina and how they have it outfitted.  It looked pretty darn roomy, especially considering that they had their own little galley on board!

I know what I am going to dream about tonight!  ;) :)

There isn't much of a look in there in this film, but it's possible our friend Flying Trucker has some pics... he was a crewman on a "Canso" (Canadian-built PBY) for a time.

But since he's unlikely to ever scan and post them (hint, hint, Doug!), maybe you could find some on airliners.net or something.
