Just kidding; I can see why the A380 would make a good platform to replace the VC-25A, and also to replace the C-5, as they talk about in the same article.

Boeing really hasn't got the 747-8 right. It simply isn't big enough to compete with the A380 in the market that the A380 is designed for.

In the FSX chat i was saying exactly that! I was saying that the A380 should replace the 747 VC-25. The guy just said that they wouldn't due to the plane being mainly computer controlled... ppffft! He says that they wernt cuz amerians don't like planes not being controlled entirely by a pilot. But i say it's much more efficient. But as too the A380 replacing the C-5... thats another story.
Airbus isn't really a military manefacteurar (spelt fast and incorrect).

Imagine the fun and hiding places that Harris Ford could have on that ship. Though, what would they call it, Air Force One Two or Just Air Force Two.
Saying that, how long before an air movie is based on the A380, you could have opposing armies of special forces and terrorists starting on each deck.  ;D

The A380 won't replace the C-5. Operating costs would be exorbitant (not that the C-5 is much better these days), and on top of that the ability to have an opening nose door is not there on the A380, so it's unable to carry Apaches, M1-A1's, etc.

As for AF1, I don't think so either. Not for not being US-made (a stupid reason anyway), but for the ability to stick with a contract with Boeing that it already has. I'd say they'll go for the 748.

Any US military place the president is on is giving the designation "one". Air Force One, Marine One, Navy One, etc. For example, when GWB flew on board the Lincoln in 2003, the S-3 he was on was "Navy One".

You called? No way am I selling myself out to Air Force One. I can picture the paint job on it now - nice on the 747, but an An-225?

Also, the An-225 is not Russian, its either from the Ukraine, or Soviet Union, if you are still living before the breakup of the USSR, then it is the latter.


On a serious note. An Antonov as Air Force One is highly unlikely though. Think of how much space and fuel it uses - it won't be able to make it into the smaller runways that the 747-2GB can already barely fit onto.  ;)

Well they don't seem to need a replacement. Anyways Air Force one is simply just for showing off. In an emergency the President and the National Command Authority would board the E-4 "Nightwatch" aka NEACP (National Emergency Airborne Command Post). Anywhere the President goes, NEACP is supposedly, close by just in case.

NEACP has inflight refueling capabilities and is EMP resistant.

I would see it with Engine Alliance GP7270 engines (though heavier than Rolls-Royce Trent 970)...
