Good afternoon... :)

Now that is our kind of Fly in/Camp out although the time for me has come when sleeping on the damp grass I really need an air mattress or good ground sheet between me and the tent floor.  ;D

What was the ruling on open pit fires or small Bar BQs at personal camp sites and was there a public beer tent?  I am sure there must have been portable showers and rest rooms as well brought in for that many folks.

Looks like a great place to visit, thanks for posting your fun weekend.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I'll try to provide as nice a summary as i can.

I saw plenty of people camping in tents next to their airplanes... because i was not spending the night i didnt happen to concern myself with the availability of showers. But there were a good number of porta-pottys.

There was no public beer tent that im aware of BUT a good number of people had coolers full of beer around their tents. I did see a few small grills as well, and only a couple of camp fires.

For lunch they served BBQ sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, and vanilla or chocolate pudding.

As the sky was getting darker i departed, about 15 minutes before dinner so i dont know what they had.

I was not around for breakfast either but it is traditionally waffles or pancakes with sausage and bacon.

Fuel was available last year... the guy who owned the flight school where i worked drove a fuel trailer over there... he said he sold something like 1800 gallons. Fuel was NOT available this year though, but there are 4 airports with fuel services available within 10 - 15 nautical miles of and conveniently located around the fly in.

Cherokee County Airport is to the west, Rusk County airport is to the North, A.L Mangham Jr airport is to the South East, and Angelina County Airport is to the South... regardless of which direction home might be - there is a convenient fuel stop not 10 minutes away.

Angelina County Airport is a great stop if its along your route of flight... if you dont want to wait and eat lunch at the fly-in the Angelina County airport has one of the best airport cafe's in the USA! its almost always packed for lunch. Their hamburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches are about 6 - 7 inches across, they have great coconut pie and chocolate pie for dessert too.

Im planning on attending next year but next time my wife is taking a camper trailer down and im flying in!

Thanks RitterKreuz sounds like a wonderful spot.  There are so many of these small bug smasher get togethers that we only hear of them after someone like you has made a visit and the fly in is over.  ;)

When we drop into some of the local bug smasher fields we check out the AOPA or COPA paper, the COPA we get but we like to check it out just to see if there is anything we missed.
I find all to often and by word of mouth we have missed a fly in as it was never put into one of these papers or the time and date was the same day I was looking at the paper.  ::)

It is great to see these pictures RitterKreuz and many times I find myself saying, gosh there is another one we missed or did not know about.
Thanks for taking the time to post the additional information and glad you had a wonderful time there.  :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
