Im just wondering... who here has been in the RAF or wants to? Im 14 and probably soon after sixth form i am going to join and from those with experience... whats it like? my mum says being an Officer lets you fly... but the RAF website says differently... so should i opt to be a 'pilot'?

so yeh, what did you think of it?

and if anyone else is about my age... then who knows, maybe we will meet up one day! (100 Squadron for the win!!)

cheers

Pilots and WSOs (Navigators) are all Officers. All rearcrew (as we don't train Flight Engineers anymore) WSops, that is Air Loadmasters, Winchmen, Air Electronics Operators, are initially NCOs, and only a relative few end up being commisioned later in their careers.

I think there are a few aspiring RAF people around here... :)

Me!  :)

Hopefully should be trying to join next year when i'm 18 and when i've got some A-Levels under my belt.
Piloting is what I wanna do but i'm willing to accept anything Aircrew at the end of the day, its not easy to become a pilot in the RAF, or Aircrew for that matter, but still... I'll try my best... and if i'm really lucky, I might hopefully get the career i've always wanted.

If not theres always easyJet.... Ryanair..... Flybe....    Thomsonfly.... etc.... etc.... etc... to crawl to!  ::) :)
Just costs you a bit of money to get the licence!  :o ;D

I don't now why people think easyJet is a bad airline...I've travelled with them twice and I was always met with good service...Their A319's are rather comfortable as well...Great legroom between the seats to relax in...Anyone care to elaborate? :-?

Working for them is possibly a different matter... ;) I doubt they'll be top of my list when the time comes. :)

I would like to but my eyesight forbids me.
My optician says that they don't accept anybody with eyesight problems.

For Aircrew your eyesight can't have no problems what so ever.
When I had my medical for my Sixth Form Scholarship with the RAF one of the lads who was in our group failed his medical due to his eyesight... He couldn't see 3D pictures very well using them red and blue glasses....  :-/
