Alright, well im selling my soul to the RAF and becoming a pilot (not right now though, im only 14, but shortly)

anywho, my sister came back from work today and she was talking to this pilot where she works (shes a waitress) and he said to get onto the RAF Altitude Club thing.

she also said that you can get offered

Feel free to ask any specifics that aren't covered there. Most of the general info is there though. The other thing to note is most people are not sponsored by the RAF, so it is in no way gauranteed. But by all means go for it though - someone has to be.

Speak to your local AFCO (Armed Forces Careers Office). Let them know you are interested sooner rather than later - and don't go in straight away saying "I want to be sponsored". They can then run through all the options available to you as you progress through school etc.

The Sixth Form Scholarship is conditional on you passing your A-levels and then applying for the full OASC experience when you leave school (either for Direct Entry at 18 or via a University bursary). You can apply for it in year 2 of GCSEs or the lower 6th.

As I say, it's changed a bit in the last 3 or 4 years, so the AFCO are the people to talk to.

During "Conscription" in the 1950's, we reluctantly allowed the Armed Forces to borrow our Body parts for two years, after which we reclaimed them back again... ...!

...getting them back again was nice... ...!

Sixth Form Scholarship is what you want to aim for, but only when your old enough. Even if you don't get the scholarship (Like me  :( - I didn't weigh enough!  :P ) Its great fun and you get a taster into how the RAF selection process takes place.

its the Sergeant you need to take care of... hes great but also a bit unpredidictable... i trust the adults at my squadron... and it does seem a little young to be talking to the people who will be talking about the job (i havent even had a proper job- just helping this guy plaster and my dad with computers) so i could do with getting some good career knowledge behind me, and actually have some grades to show

Not at all - you are never too young - I was on "the books" of the careers Flt Lt who visited our school from the AFCO from the age of 13. He then saw me again each year to discuss my progress, and guided me through to selection for the 6th Form Scholarship when I was 17 (in which I was, happily, successful). By that time they'd had a chance to speak to me several times, and point me in the right direction as to what OASC would look for. Provided you are genuinely interested the sooner you get the AFCO involved the better IMO.

Personally I never involved the ATC in any of my direct "career" advice (sure, the training I had helped, and I always kept them up to date with how it was going) - mainly due to the fact they are volunteer Air Training Corps officers/staff - they are not trained in recruitment and selection, so won't necessarily be able to give you the best, or even correct, advice.

as it happens, an RAF team are coming to our school (or atleast town) in about 3 weeks for careers in music and flying etc


ill see if i can get on that- i have a piece of course work we are starting which asks for us to be going out of school on that day so i shall have to check it
