A passenger plane was diverted to East Midlands Airport after developing technical problems.

An airport spokeswoman said the Thomson Fly aircraft took off from Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport at 1550 BST and developed problems with a front wheel.

The plane, which was heading for Corfu, landed safely at the Castle Donington airport at about 1800 BST.

Emergency services were called out to the runway. There were no reports of any casualties.

Heard it local radio as the news came in. My mum got a bit worried as my Auntie, Uncle and Cousins where flying back from Italy to East Mids this evening and where due to land at around 18:30 when all this news came flooding in. Luckily every one was all right... and my little Cousins got a tour of the cockpit as they were delayed on the tarmac for an hour in Italy because of it. Lucky S*ds!  >:(  ;D
