Well...it's tomorrow, and the weather is looking up (sunny intervals) anyone else going?....the lineup is pretty good for a small seaside airshow

Reds
Typhoon
BBMF
RNHF
Blue Eagles
Chinook
Sea King + RNLI role demo 8-)
Tutor (oh wait...why did I bother putting that

)

Their website also says that they are close to securing some overseas surprises....though it hasnt been updated for a couple of weeks...

RNHF participation will either be only the Seafire or nothing, both the Sea Fury and Sea Hawk are finished for 2007.

What's all this about a RNHF Seafire? The only one I know of is operated by Kennet Aviation.

Yes, that's correct. Kennet Aviation agreed to cover some the RNHF dates after the Sea Fury and Hawk went U/S, I don't know if they have done for Dawlish, but they are for Elvington at the weekend.

Yes, that's correct. Kennet Aviation agreed to cover some the RNHF dates after the Sea Fury and Hawk went U/S, I don't know if they have done for Dawlish, but they are for Elvington at the weekend.

He's going to be a busy boy then. The Seafire is also listed for the Airbourne 4-day event at Eastbourne starting tomorrow. I was hoping it would be based at Shoreham during the event. http://www.eastbourneairshow.com/flyingdisplay/

You wonder if they'd do better selling the whole operation to Kennet. Luck and the RNHF are two things that never seem to go together... Luck rarely sides with them...

(For those who don't know the RNHF luck:

Sea Fury FB.11 (TF956?) - lost at sea in 1989 after pilot bailed out following landing gear malfunction - a landing was considered too dangerous
Sea Fury T.20 (WG655) - lost near Yeovilton in 1990. Engine failure lead to forced landing. Same pilot (who now flies Kennet's Seafire). Now for sale having been "rebuilt" in the states
Sea Hawk - post restoration jet pipe crack 1997/8?. Suffered a major problem last year too. The pilot was commended for his actions.
Fairey Firefly - well documented fatal accident at Duxford (which may be the only one not put down to luck, but the crashes findings and implications have been reviewed at length)
Sea Fury FB.11 VR930 - various engine problems since restoration)

Tutor (oh wait...why did I bother putting that )

I've always found it amusing watching people smirk at the Slingsby Firefly from DEFTS as it runs in for its display. Then watching the people who were smirking picking their jaws of the floor when it's finished. A shame the Tutor doesn't have the Firefly's horsepower!

Lovely airshow, and I had a nice view from the cliffs...

As I arrived a Merlin sweeped around the bay at about 30ft but I didnt have my camera out....could have got a nice top down of him

Then 2 Typhoons did a few passes...

At about 1:30 the real displays got underway;

BBMF (Spit, hurri and C47)
Blue Eagles
AAC Historic flight (possibly confused for the RNHF by the website ::))
Reds
EF Typhoon
Sea King SAR (which was awesome

)
Tutor

Was a nice show, though Dawlish itself really wasnt big enough for the predicted 17500 people (and it looked like the numbers were about right)

I love the firefly display, especially cos its painted yellow

, but the tutor is just a bit tame....and one you've seen it about 8 times in a year it gets a little tedious (it's also damn hard to get a good photo of when displaying, bloody small planes

)

Annoying isn't it. I wrote Dick as in the aircraft restorer Dick Melton the other day, and it changed it to "thingy"!

DOH! It's done it again!

Just google "Melton Spitfire" and you'll know his real name (D i c k)...

AAC Historic flight (possibly confused for the RNHF by the website)

They were brought in to replace the RNHF.

I Arrived at 12:20, sat a liitle way along the crowdline... left at the start of the Tutor display and was home at 8:00. Pretty nice airshow. ;)
