What is the worst air disaster you can imagine? IMO the worst is if the fuel tanks explode midair.

Two fully loaded 747's crashing head on in mid air.

Probably would never happen and so it shouldn't.

Sad thought I guess! :'(

If you're going to imagine....... then 2 fully laden A380's colliding midair over a heavily populated area.

Actually this has allready happened! In the seventies, on the Canary Islands, a PANAM 747 and a KLM 747 collided with eachother on the tarmac. The KLM bird was taking off, while the PANAM jet was still taxiing on the runway. The accident involved fog, lack of groundradar, a stressed KLM captain and unfortunate timing...

583 people lost their life and the accident is still considered the worste airdissaster to date.

Yes I remember now I saw that on 'Air Crash Investigations' program on tv. The airport was a reginal one and the reason the 747s were there was because they were diverted from their original destination. The Panam was taxiing from 1 end of the runway to the other and was about to exit when the KLM was took off in the other direction, they collided in the middle of the runway.

Wouldn't 2 airliners crashing into and demolishing two, adjacent skyscrapers, killing 3000+ people be the worst disaster ever ?

For the 747 disaster all the casualties were from the planes.
On 9/11 the majority of deaths were from the public in the towers and on the ground.

Technically yes, I suppose it would. However, one could take the thread to mean the "worst aviation accident", which of course then removes events such as the 9/11 attacks and Lockerbie etc...

An A380 crashing into a B-52 loaded with nukes. The B-52 then crashes into a city and the nukes go off...

Id have to agree.  I remember that day vividly.  Regardless of where the deaths came from, it was definately the worst.

Still a grim conversation, don't you thing?

No.

Why shouldn't this kind of topic be discussed?
