I meant RAF and you know it.....Navy doesnt count...

What I dont understand is why they dont display....the chinook does a separate display so why not the merlin...it cant be down to "operational" commitments because they can afford to send a Merlin and its crew as a static display....

A whole different ball game to working up an entire display routine, having a dedicated crew for said display (the crew won't be the same for each static appearance), and paying for each flying displays. A static display will only require flying to the show and back.

Not to mention often having to sort out a spare aircraft and technical support, it's far more expensive.
If static and flying displays both cost the same both financially and practically, then you can bet you'd see a lot more exotic air arms performing in this country...

Not to mention that the display may may not have passed mustard when the AOC viewed the final display before it gets it's public viewing ticket. Seen it happen before, he can be fussy.

I understood the static RAF Merlin at Biggin was a purely voluntary effort by the crew who did it in their own time. The RAF seems to have dropped individual displays this year in favour of that stupid role demo thing. ::) I think that this is a bad mistake but time will tell. I'm not keen on helicopters but thought last season's Merlin display routine was excellent.

What is really farcical, is the cutting of the Harrier from the display circuit entirely, not even a part of the role demo. I've got nothing against the actual role demo, it was great at Kemble, but the cutting of solo displays has gone too far, the Harrier, for instance, has always been the main RAF display (bar the Reds) that just your average member of the public will recall specifically, it's VTOL just had such a wow factor. Cutting that, worse than the rest, is a huge miscalculation in my humble judgement

As for Spirit Of Adventure, don't get me started...
