Red arrows warning

The top gun at the Red Arrows issued a stark reminder to local pilots to observe no fly zones during their display. I read this in the local paper, the evening post. This was after the incident at Cosford when the display was called off midway through due to a microlight infringment.

What i found rather good was that he didnt launch a scathing attack on all pilots, although these incidents lose them their displays, he said most pilots were proffesional and observed this no fly announcements, but a few were reckless and did not.

Cant find a link to the article, if anyone can, that would enhance this i think.

Myself, 61_otu and all those at cosford can attest to the fact that these idiots should be on the receiving end of a SAM missile. I'd also like to point out, that it was 2 infringments. So not only one but 2 pilots wrecklessly endangered their own lives but those of the red arrows aswell. Not to mention p*ssing off a lot of people who were just getting excited to see the split displays.

Yeah, seemed a shame, the reason  he cited for having to call the display off, is due to the fact that the pilots, in close formation are looking for each other, and dont have time to watch for other aircraft therefore noone safety could be ensured.

At one stage Red 10 announced that the Reds had "formed up and had put on smoke near the intruder to clearly identify their presence"  :o .........or words to that effect (am I imagining that Craig?)

I can just see some dimwit hang glider pilot with 9 bright red Hawks screaming towards him with smoke coming from their tails  ;D

I then tried to imagine what a dimwit hang glider pilot would look like doused in red, white and blue diesel.......

Its nothing new and will probably continue to happen... Every once in a couple of weekends when im gliding at RAF Syerston there will be an aircraft infringment on the MATZ. Even if the airfield is primeraly used at weekends and soley for gliding many pilots just don't bother calling up on the radio... Its not like they can't see it, the main runway we have got is 1.5 miles long and was once used by Vulcans! Ohhh well... if they don't call up and really piss us off by being too low and too close we get out the airfield mobile phone and ring up Waddington ATC and find out who they are and where they're going and give them a right bollocking for not calling up! Usually there just squawking 1200 and arn't talking to anyone....
