RIAT - News from the regional launch

From the UKAR forum...

Just attended the Regional launch of RIAT today, under warm skies.
Not a great deal we didn't already know about the show, but organisers are expecting to match or beat their target of 300 aircraft, so expect some updates soon.

The flying display is over-subscribed, so there is likely to be some moving around and some displays being put on one day only.

Among the displays will be an Oasis Hong Kong 747, which will theoretically be the largest aircraft ever to perform at a RIAT. This will display one day only.

There will some special formations, Tim Prince has hinted at something special at lunchtime to commemorate the USAF anniversary, and considering that's the best light for photography at that time, you can guarantee it will be worth shooting. There will also be some special formations, but there are several hurdles to overcome before that.

The airfield layout has changed slightly. The Thunderbirds will be putting on their ground demo on a large hardstanding at the Eastern end in front of the public, so that means the charter terminal is going to the Western End.

Oh and the F-22 isn't coming.

Looking forward to seeing the 747! Sad that we won't see the F22 this year but i can't say i really thought we would. I think there is scheduled to be an update this coming Friday.

Already seen it. :P

Taken at Biggin Hill last weekend. I wouldn't worry if you miss it. It's nothing to get excited about.

Why? RIAT isn't about lumbering airliners trying (and almost certainly failing) to look exciting. 'Regulars' like the Swiss F18 and USAF F15 are what you should be anticipating. ;)

The Oasis 744 is nothing special.....as said above RIAT is for Military hardware not big lumps of metal ;)

I think Thunderbirds/B-52 would be more appropriate seeing as they both been around almost as long as the USAF itself... :)

As for the Oasis 744 - you can bet either a) they're cheap, or b) free... :)
