A 757 taking off from Manchester airport ingests two Herons into it's starboard engine. After burning off fuel for 45 mins the aircraft made a safe landing...... The training worked then ;D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manc ... 606375.stmIf I can find the footage taken by a spotter at the airport then I'll post a link ....... it is rather spectacular.

Saw this today at school, whilst it must be scary for the passengers, from what i read on the bbc website no -one was ever in any danger. The engine was shut down as soon as they became aware of the bird in the plane and then it was a, porbably trained for single engine landing. Granted the pilot may be panicing a bit, no wanting to screw it up, but surely they can handle it. The engine never rcaught fire, only the heron so no major danger. Shows the skill pilots to handle a plane on a single engine with everyone watching your landing intently!!!!!

surely they would have done the usual to clear the area around the runway of birds. From what i read, it happened litteraly less than a minute into the flight so they must have tried to clear them? I guess they did, just didnt work.

Both videos are very good. The YouTube however, actually catches the moment the bird decided to meet it's maker.

Just shows you how well drilled both pilots and controllers are drilled in Emergency proccedures. The pilots, during the entire radio call, seemed calm and collected and were able to give all the details required. The controller as well seemed to be just as calm and had thought ahead to ease the workload for the pilots. When he asks for taxi clearance, the controller says "would a tug make it easier, there is one on standby" Very proffesionally handled IMHO
