Couldn't they have called someone in?  I don't really see why the flight had to be cancelled, although the pilot certainly should have been disciplined...

No doubt some busy body PAX who just could not resist but to get involved with something that had nothing to do with him. I wish I lived in his (the pax) happy perfect world.  Also probably lining up his lawyers for a gazillion dollar lawsuit for the emotion stress of someone swearing at them  ::) Get a life, shut up and sit down, Oh you can't, because you got the flight cancelled............fu#ckwit. Wonder what names the other people who now are late are calling you.  Never mind the rest who have now had their Easter Holiday ruined. Must be nice to have to world revolve around you all the time..............................sorry rant over.

What was the point in doing that? Surely it must cost the airline quite a bit to cancel a flight? Pilot's should never use fowl language and especially at passangers... but it obviously seems that he was on his phone because of personal problems or going through a hard time... Then when one smartarse passenger starts bitching to you its not going to make the situation any better, and things must of just got out of hand... Remember! Pilots are humans! They feel the same stress and strain as we do, and are put under alot more stress than the average person... so once in a while a pilot will blow his top, like this.

To be fair, he shouldn't swear at a fare paying pax, but at the end of the day he's a busy man it's his aeroplane, and his personal business has to be done when he gets the chance.

I'd have made the twit pax get out and walk...... ah wait he had to do that anyways

I don't necessarily agree.  I don't know if I'd want a possibly distracted, definately aggrivated person in charge of a plane full of 180 people.  Heck, I've seen the results of overly aggrivated drivers and that's a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds less and contains only one passenger.  I doubt that pilot's ability to fly a plane was harmed by his mental state, but I'd rather cancel the flight than find out the hard way.

Sure pilots are people too, but I wouldn't want my surgeon cutting in to me in that condition and I wouldn't want that pilot flying my 757 either.  I do hope however that this in no way reflects negatively on his career.  To me it should be viewed as a moment of caution, like grounding a plane with a questionable but probably still okay maintenance issue.  I'd assume that if you've progressed as far as 757s in your career that things are relatively stable for you so hopefully he comes out of it okay.

Point taken, but remember two things: in almost every post-accident CVR transcript, nobody's cursing or yelling... everything's hunky-dory until things go awry. That includes things going wrong due to pilot error. Often the opposite is the case: crews getting jovial and a little too relaxed often leads to disaster.
Back in the "bad old days" of commercial flying, captains were generally rather- uh- colorful... and aside from weather and mechanical problems, the safety record was pretty good.
 If this guy was flipping out completely, I might be alarmed, but...as for cussing at a passenger, well, that's a Public Relations problem, worthy of discipline... but not a safety problem.

The other thing to remember is that when the police are dragging body bags out of the house next door, the neighbor being interviewed by the media almost always says "I don't get it- he was so nice, so quiet... never heard him raise his voice once..."

 

So let me get this straight: The pilot was having a bad moment and took his discussion into what he probably considered the most private area at hand. His loud voice spilled over into the passenger compartment. As he headed toward the cockpit one of those pinko-commi, secular progressive, I stick my nose in everything that is not my business, you're invading my space, you're all ruining my planet, etc. types feels he just has to involve himself in order to assert his opinions on the pilot. Is that about right?

If it were me, said passenger would have found his butt filling a hole in the fuselage made by his tiny-minded head.  ;D
