Light Aircraft crashes at Headcorn(EGKH)

A light aircraft crashed into a static display after aborting a take-off roll at Headcorn aerodrome.  It was carrying local parachutists from the local team. The pilot and co pilot were left seriously injured and seven others on board were treated on scene.  The plane invloved was a De Havilland Turbo Beaver

Probably wrong, but in that "last picture" it looks like the pilot is eyeballing the panel... way down low, where the engine gauges might be... probably had a good reason to abort, but that's too bad it went awry... do I even want to know which museum aircraft were damaged, and how badly? (peers through fingers) :-/

I once witnesses a 80+ year old plane accident at the Rhinebeck Airfield in upstate New York.... the pilot was okay.... i think the plane was done though.... basically what happened was that the pilot musta tried to abort and didnt have the room  :-/.... there for going past the runway and into the woods..... no one herd an explosion or anything.... but there were ambulences going back and forth...

It's always a worrying thing...

You can go through all your pre-flight, and engine run-up checks, etc, with everything reading: "Fine to go!"....

...then everything goes pear-shaped half way down the runway... ...!

Not a good time to get a "dead" engine... ...!

Just read some tragic news, the pilot died last night in Hospital. On the BBC website, the club member paid tribute to the pilot and was in no doubt that it was a great loss to everyone and that he had no doubts about the pilots capabilities.  Must really bring it home to the pilots there the risks invloved, but crashes are so rare that it shouldnt put anyone off.

That's a bummer... but he saved his pax; he'd be happy to know that.
 "There but for the grace of God", etc... it happens. My verbal checklist when the roll starts includes "Temp and pressure in the green"; makes all the difference, as I'm sure it did in this case.

Going for a quick hop at 47N tomorrow morning... if anything goes wrong, I hope I make a hole in one at the golf course and not wind up in the cemetery... but so far the number of takeoffs matches the number of landings...
